It’s time, then, to hire a “shamanic practitioner” who, and I quote, “is very sensitive to energy.” This guy and his shirt start burning incense in the basement and getting a sense of the cold open ritual until he’s confronted by the demon cat itself. Alicia’s condition is a mystery until someone diagnoses her with typhoid fever, of which there have been no cases in the U.S. The sighting causes her to have a seizure and insist, “There’s a demon in my room.” She even has the temperature to prove it.Īlicia is taken to the hospital for her raging fever and dunked in an ice bath, where her hair starts falling out in clumps. Alicia eventually spots the thing under a fish tank, which makes sense in the same way that, say, an episode of Tom and Jerry does. The cat becomes public enemy number one, so Alicia, armed with a kitchen knife, sets about finding it. Alicia rushes upstairs to very slowly acquire a weapon, leaving her mother to the mercy of the cat and then is surprised to return and find her with shattered ankles. Haunted is a paranormal pseudo-documentary developed by Propagate. “For some reason, I felt like something wasn’t right here,” says Alicia, somewhat hilariously.Īs we learn in “Demon Cat”, the titular moggy isn’t just evil but also telekinetic and sprung to life from awful CGI, which Alicia discovers when she finds it cornering her mother in the basement after flinging her down the stairs. In the pool, Alicia finds a bin bag full of the masks that the creepy cat cultists wore in the cold open. By adding in surly fledgling crime boss Kaz Brekker (Freddy Carter) and his crew-characters from another novel in Bardugo's Grishaverse-the show tempers the romance and high court drama of the main story with a parallel crime-caper narrative, weaving them both together by using flashbacks and lots of creative license. As with all these stories, Haunted season 3, episode 5 finds a family moving into a new house, where a man with a sleeveless denim vest and face tattoos is seen leaving (never judge a book by its cover, unless you’re in a horror series.) The house is nice, to be fair - it has a pool and everything! The usual weirdnesses begin occurring immediately, ornaments flying off mantelpieces and such, but in this case, they’re accompanied by an eerie cat cry. Meanwhile, a band of teenage criminals from the slums of Ketterdam embark on their own dangerous mission, taking them deep into the heart of Grisha country. The new Netflix film The Midnight Sky is supposed to be a lyrical, melancholic reflection on the persistence of love and human connection even at the end of the world. In Ravka, Grisha are trained as soldiers and led by General Kirigan ( Westworld's Ben Barnes), himself a Grisha with power over darkness and a not-so-secret disdain for the nation's weak monarchy. The first season of Netflix's adaptation of Leigh Bardugo's bestselling fantasy series introduces Alina Starkov (Jessie Mei Li), a lowly army cartographer from Ravka, a country based loosely on Russia, who learns by accident that she possesses the rare ability to channel pure light, making her a powerful (and dangerous) Grisha. Don't be mistaken: There's a lot more to this kid's show than you might expect, but Avatar: The Last Airbender makes it look as easy as walking on air. As they journey through the nations so Aang can master all of the elements and eventually face the totalitarian leader of the Fire Nation, the devastating scope of the world in Aang's absence becomes more and more clear. Avatar: The Last Airbender is an adventure tale that follows the quest of waterbender Katara, her brother Sokka, and a boy they find frozen in an iceberg named Aang, who ends up being the avatar, a reincarnated being who can control all four elements whose job it is to keep harmonic balance between the Four Nations. Maybe you were part of the generation that was obsessed with it during its initial run, or maybe you've yet to immerse yourself into this world of elemental nations, but there's never a bad time to watch or rewatch this stunning, Western-meets-anime-style series. This Nickelodeon show has been hailed as one of the best animated series of all time, for good reason. ![]()
